District’s Bestselling Product ⑭: Hwangsil Towel
“It’s too pretty to just be a scrubbing towel!” “It’s amazing how it removes dead skin so gently that even kids like it. Oh look! There’s a design of Gamcheon Culture Village, too!” These were the reactions of residents viewing products displayed in the main building of the district office. When people think of scrubbing towels, they typically imagine the yellow piece of fabric with three black stripes. But the idea that a soft, fabric-like material can gently remove dead skin feels refreshingly innovative. Hwangsil Towel (2F, 451 Jangpyeong-ro / +82-51-902-5250) began in 2010 as a Busan-style preliminary social enterprise (Sahapumasi Songi Atti Project Group) and transitioned into a corporation in 2015. Founded and steadily grown in Saha-gu, the company continues to develop as one of the district’s representative enterprises. Its origin story is fascinating as well: inspired by records from the Joseon dynasty royal court, which mention bathing with red bean soap and silk, the company developed bath towels using artificial silk (viscose rayon), a material most similar in texture and properties to silk. Hwangsil Towel products are crafted using a patented weaving technique with viscose rayon extracted from trees and feature a variety of printed designs. The lineup includes different types of products, such as square towels, back scrub towels, and facial towels, available both as individual items and gift sets. The products are sold on almost all major online shopping platforms and are also available as Hometown Love gifts. All products have passed textile safety tests and are certified child-safe, ensuring they can be safely used even by infants under three years old. Recently, to expand into overseas markets, the company launched its K-Culture series, featuring designs inspired by royal weddings, traditional folk performances, Bongsan Talchum (mask dance), and Dongnae Hakchum (crane dance). The company also introduced the Busan Edition, highlighting local icons such as Haeundae, Gwangalli, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Jagalchi Market, becoming popular among visitors to Busan. Although exports are still in the early stages, Hwangsil Towel products are already available on international platforms such as Amazon, Qoo10, and AliExpress.

Saha District Introduces AI-Powered Safety Management for Jangnim Detention Basin
Saha District is introducing South Korea’s first AI-powered detention basin at Jangnim, enhancing flood prevention with real-time monitoring, automated response systems, and predictive maintenance. Saha District has announced the implementation of an AI-based safety management platform for the Jangnim Detention Basin, marking the first time artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be applied to a detention basin in South Korea. The project, selected for the 2024 Facility Improvement and Standard Model Contest led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will receive a total investment of 1.1 billion KRW. By integrating cutting-edge technology, the district aims to set a new benchmark in flood prevention and urban water safety.A detention basin plays a crucial role in flood control and urban water management by temporarily holding excess rainwater and gradually releasing it to prevent sudden flooding. Unlike a retention pond, which retains water permanently, a detention basin remains dry between storms, filling only during heavy rainfall. This system helps regulate water flow, reduce soil erosion, and improve water quality by filtering out pollutants before releasing water into nearby streams or rivers. In Saha District, where extreme weather events are becoming more frequent due to climate change, Jangnim Detention Basin serves as a vital infrastructure to safeguard residents and businesses from the increasing risks of urban flooding. To enhance its efficiency, the district will introduce AI-driven monitoring and automated response systems. Intelligent CCTV cameras and an advanced access control system will be installed to monitor real-time water levels and detect potential hazards. The most groundbreaking aspect of the project is the integration of AI technology into the drainage pump station, a first-of-its-kind initiative in South Korea. This AI system will analyze weather data to predict rainfall, continuously track water levels, and trigger immediate responses when abnormalities are detected. By doing so, the system ensures that flood control measures are activated swiftly and precisely, minimizing the risk of overflow. In addition to real-time monitoring, the AI system will also perform predictive maintenance on the pump equipment, diagnosing potential failures before they occur. By automatically assessing the condition of the pumps and scheduling necessary repairs, the system will prevent unexpected malfunctions that could disrupt flood control operations. Furthermore, big data analysis and AI-driven reporting will streamline the management of drainage facilities, making the entire process more efficient and responsive to changing weather conditions. As part of its preparations for the summer monsoon season, Saha District will prioritize the installation of intelligent CCTV and automated entry controls, ensuring that abnormal conditions near the detention basin and pump station are detected early. By strengthening flood prevention measures and optimizing emergency response protocols, the district hopes to significantly reduce flood damage and enhance public safety.Saha District is dedicated to strengthening disaster prevention infrastructure through the implementation of an AI-based safety management system. This initiative is designed to proactively prevent accidents while significantly enhancing the efficiency of flood control and emergency response operations. Leveraging the secured budget, the district will systematically expand this initiative, ensuring a safer and more resilient urban environment for all residents.

Why Saha District is the Next Big Investment Destination in Busan
For decades, Saha District stood as a cornerstone of Busan’s industrial era, home to key manufacturing and logistics centers that powered the city’s economic engine. Today, it is undergoing a profound transformation—one that redefines its role in the urban landscape, shifting from an industrial legacy to a forward-thinking hub of innovation, sustainability, and global connectivity. At the heart of this transformation lies Seobusan Smart Valley, a next-generation industrial complex designed to usher in a new era of high-tech manufacturing, smart logistics, and eco-friendly development. Positioned strategically near Busan New Port and the upcoming Gadeokdo International Airport, the district is poised to become a key economic driver, not just for Busan but for the entire Northeast Asian region. Saha District’s identity has long been shaped by its role in Busan’s manufacturing sector. For years, industries flourished within its borders, but as global trends shifted towards technology-driven and sustainable industrial ecosystems, the district recognized the need for renewal. This led to the birth of Seobusan Smart Valley, a major redevelopment project that is redefining industrial growth in the digital age.Unlike its predecessor, which was built around traditional heavy industries, Seobusan Smart Valley is structured to attract high-tech enterprises, research and development (R&D) facilities, and eco-conscious industries. Through extensive modernization, this industrial complex is integrating digital automation, smart energy solutions, and AI-driven production technologies, setting the stage for a more efficient and sustainable future. The project is not merely about upgrading infrastructure; it represents a fundamental shift in how industries operate, fostering an ecosystem that prioritizes efficiency, environmental responsibility, and global competitiveness. With government-backed incentives, smart industrial policies, and strategic location advantages, Seobusan Smart Valley is fast becoming an ideal destination for businesses looking to scale their operations in a cutting-edge environment. No city can thrive without seamless connectivity, and Saha District is at the center of one of West Busan’s most ambitious infrastructure expansions. As part of Busan’s commitment to balanced regional growth, large-scale projects are enhancing transportation networks, logistics efficiency, and overall accessibility.A major component of this transformation is the Hadan-Noksan Metro Line, an upcoming expansion that will provide direct and efficient transit connections between industrial zones and residential districts. Complementing this is the development of the Second Coastal Ring Road, designed to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow across key economic hubs. Furthermore, the introduction of the Busan Hydrogen Express Rail (BuTX) places Saha District at the forefront of sustainable mobility, ensuring that the city’s transportation infrastructure evolves in line with global trends toward carbon neutrality. With these projects in motion, Saha District is establishing itself as a high-mobility urban center, where industries, businesses, and residents benefit from enhanced accessibility and smarter transportation solutions. While industrial and economic growth remains central to Saha District’s transformation, equal emphasis is being placed on sustainable urban living. Recognizing the importance of a balanced, livable environment, the district is integrating eco-conscious urban planning, green spaces, and smart city technologies to enhance its residential and commercial landscapes. One of the flagship projects in this initiative is the urban regeneration of aging residential areas, where smart infrastructure and energy-efficient housing models are being introduced to improve quality of life and community engagement. Additionally, extensive green corridors, eco-friendly public spaces, and pedestrian-friendly zones are being developed to ensure that urban expansion aligns with environmental conservation efforts. At the forefront of Saha’s sustainability initiatives is the effort to designate Eulsukdo as a National Urban Park, enhancing its role as a vital ecological zone while integrating urban sustainability. As one of Korea’s most significant wetland ecosystems, this initiative aims to preserve and expand natural landscapes, setting a benchmark for harmonizing urban development with environmental conservation. While much of Saha District’s transformation focuses on industry and infrastructure, it is also cultivating a cultural and tourism identity that enhances its vibrancy. With stunning coastal landscapes, artistic communities, and heritage sites, the district is emerging as one of Busan’s most diverse and engaging destinations. One of its most iconic attractions, Dadaepo Beach, is set to undergo a major transformation into a Maritime Tourism Complex, offering a dynamic mix of waterfront entertainment, hospitality, and recreational facilities. Visitors and residents alike will soon experience a revitalized coastline where urban leisure meets natural beauty.Further inland, Gamcheon Culture Village, often referred to as the “Santorini of Korea,” continues to attract travelers with its vivid murals, labyrinth-like alleyways, and thriving creative spaces.
